Teaser Tuesday: Quarantine

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

My teaser this week is from Quarantine by John Smolens:

"You seem quite well today," he ventured.
"Better than your cousin," she whispered.
"My cousin? Which one?"
"He's--" she began, but hesitated.
"He is ill?"
"He is pickled."

I had to pick that part, because I love it, but I must admit it makes the book seem much more lighthearted than it really is.
