Read! Read! Read-a-Thon!

It's time for my 23rd Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon!

I think I've got a good book stack picked out! Several books that lend themselves well to Hallowe'en fun times! And six of the nine books are from my TBR pile, which is good because that is a challenge I'm way behind on this year. (The graphic novels are all library books; the rest I own.)

  • Saga, Vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples (160 pages)
  • Saga, Vol. 2 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples (144 pages)
  • Death & Sparkles by Rob Justus (360 pages)
  • More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz (80 pages)
  • Say Cheese and Die! (Goosebumps #4) by R.L. Stine (132 pages)
  • The Deception (Animorphs #46) by K.A. Applegate (118 pages)
  • Monster of the Month Club by Dian Curtis Regan (152 pages)
  • Frankenstein Doesn't Plant Petunias (The Bailey School Kids #6) by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones (57 pages)
  • Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton (135 pages)
That's a total of 1338 pages, consisting of 664 pages of graphic novels, and 674 pages of standard text, which is more than I read last time, but slightly less than I read last October. If I finish my whole stack, depending how much time remains, I'll either start the second volume of Sandman that a friend lent me, or I'll just read one of the several books I have in progress.

Finally, here's my opening survey:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Winnipeg, Manitoba
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Say Cheese and Die! I love Goosebumps.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Leftover kimchi noodles!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! The other 22 times I've answered this question have used up all my fun facts lol!

Current state of things: Well, for a while there I thought I'd finish an 8th book, but then the last hour was back to barely being able to keep my eyes open. I did come really close, though! Today wasn't my strongest read-a-thon ever but considering the circumstances I'm happy!

Snacks: baby carrots, cherry danishes, root beer

Current state of things: OK, so, not great lol. My group chat has been super active and my brain is just loving that a lot more than it's loving this book!! Really I should have just switched books. But now I feel like I'm far enough in that I need to just finish. The book's not even bad; it's just not keeping me super engaged. Ugh this is ruining my page counts! It's fine. 8 hours to go!

No time for sleeping! It's the read-a-thon!

It's time for my 22nd Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon!

I had trouble deciding on books for my read-a-thon stack, maybe because a lot of the stuff on my book cart has been sitting there for a while and just didn't feel fresh and exciting. So I went to my bookshelves and have hopefully made a pile that will keep me focused.

  • Paper Girls, Vol. 3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang (128 pages)
  • Zeus: King of the Gods (Olympians #1) by George O'Connor (66 pages)
  • Athena: Grey-Eyed Goddess (Olympians #2) by George O'Connor (66 pages)
  • Aster and the Accidental Magic by Thom Pico and Karensac (210 pages)
  • The Accidental After Life of Thomas Marsden by Emma Trevayne (247 pages)
  • The Test (Animorphs #43) by K.A. Applegate (135 pages)
  • Help! I'm Trapped in the First Day of Summer Camp by Todd Strasser (148 pages)
  • Leprechauns Don't Play Basketball (The Bailey School Kids #4) by Debbie Dadey and Marcia Thornton Jones (71 pages)
  • The Second Evil (Fear Street Cheerleaders #2) by R.L. Stine (167 pages)
That's a total of 1238 pages, consisting of 470 pages of graphic novels, and 768 pages of standard text, which is a little less than I read last time, though it's one more book. We shall see! I'm really tired lately so I'm not expecting a record-breaking performance today. But if I do manage to finish my whole pile (that's actually never happened!) I do have plenty of other reading material at the ready, including a few books I've already started and a French book I'm planning to start on Sunday anyway.

Finally, here's my opening survey (prepped in advance as usual, because I can't accomplish things at 7:00!):

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Winnipeg, Manitoba
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? The Accidental After Life of Thomas Marsden
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? My coworker gave me some of her delicious banana bread, so probably that!
4) Tell us a little something about yourself! Umm my pronouns are they/them. That's new since last read-a-thon!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? Same as usual.
