I'm currently reading (or rather listening to) Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice. Here are the first coupla sentences:
"I see..." said the vampire thoughtfully, and slowly he walked across the room towards the window. For a long time he stood there against the dim light from Divisadero Street and the passing beams of traffic. The boy could see the furnishings of the room more clearly now, the round oak table, the chairs. A wash basin hung on one wall with a mirror. He set his briefcase on the table and waited.
Note: If you're an Anne Rice fan, you should join the 2012 Anne Rice Challenge!
Oh wow, I can see the room. Is the vampire handsome or ugly???
ReplyDeletelol, well in the movie he was played by Brad Pitt, so I think it's safe to say he was handsome. :P But seriously, it also says in the book that he was handsome.
ReplyDeleteNow I call this book a modern classic. Anne Rice was writing about vampires well before it was hip to do so. I remember reading this book when the movie came out and sitting in my lounge room racing through the final chapters as we were about to see the movie later that afternoon. A good read - but sometimes I think it may have got too much hype that inflated it a bit?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the early Vampire Chronicles books could never get too much hype! Some of the later ones are another story... But for the first time, I'll be reading all of them for the Anne Rice challenge, so we'll see how good the recent books are!
