I'm currently reading The Revenge of the Dwarves by Markus Heitz. Here are the first coupla sentences:
Gronsha stood still, listening intently in the swirling fog that his yellow eyes were quite unable to penetrate, though he was one of the finest scouts in Prince Ushnart's army. To tell the truth, he was one of only three scouts still left to Prince Ushnart. The others who had set off to reconnoiter for the Prince now lay at the Stone Gate, their heads struck clean from their shoulders.I love these books so much, you guys. If you enjoy high fantasy at all you need to check out Markus Heitz.
That's a great beginning. Not only do we know who the protagonist is but we already fear for his life, all within 5 lines!!
ReplyDeleteHop on over if you have the chance:

Hop you have a great weekend,

Sounds very suspenseful, with lots of frightening events to come.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST and
MY WEBSITE
Juli: Actually, Gronsha's not even the protagonist. :) He's not even a major character. Markus Heitz's books always start with a prologue that follows different characters than the rest of the book, sometimes even taking place hundreds of years in the past!
ReplyDeleteBut I agree, it's a great beginning that really gets the action going. There are never boring bits in the Dwarves books. :)
This is the first time I have seen this author. I love the title of your blog. I have a TBR Mountains too and it just seems to get bigger.
ReplyDeleteHi JC! This author's written quite a few books, but unfortunately this is only the third one so far to be translated. I just hope that his popularity causes them to eventually translate the rest!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like my blog name. :) It was inspired by the overwhelming dread I occasionally feel when looking at my tbr list, haha. It just keeps growing!
Wow, that is an exciting beginning--lots of tension to get you turning the next page!
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in Book Beginnings!
Yeah, the Dwarves books are always great page turners!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this challenge, Katy!
